Search Engine Optimization is a fairly new science. Like most new sciences, while in it’s infancy
there is a lot of theories on how everything actually works. Some web masters have completely given up and swear there is no way to guarantee the actual results of the Search Engine Optimization of a particular website. What makes the science of SEO even more confusing is that all search engines do not use the exact same filters and factors in there search results. To a novice this would make you believe the only way to obtain a front page listing on any particular search would be to be extremely lucky. However such is not the case. A true webmaster would be able to examine the search results, look and see what websites are there and what they did to put them on the top and be able to come up with a successful strategy to either match or exceed them, or know if they are out of the optimist’s reach.
For a person to truly be telling you he is in fact a Search Engine Optimist and can do a professional job of optimizing a website he should know the mathematics of what it takes to gain a front page listing on any search engine. This is not rocket science. One is less then two and two is less then three, therefore three would rank highest, then two then one. If you wanted a top listing you should come up with the power ranking of at least three if that is the Ranking of the Webpage you want to be up with. A true SEO would also know the mathematics of what it takes to be even with the top sites and thereby give a person a reasonable expectation of if a top ten listing is likely.
By knowing what the search code is and who is getting what rankings in what search engines a true Search Engine Optimist could set a strategy to obtain a top ranking under any search code out there if the desire is great enough. The two most important things to know before setting a marketing strategy is to make sure the search term you are looking for is one that your Search Engine Optimist feels confident is both obtainable as a top ten listing and has a high number of monthly uses.
In conclusion anyone that claims to be a true Search Engine Optimist and in the same breath alleges there is no way to guarantee a top ten listing on any particular search engine for any specific search results cannot really call himself a SEO. Some search result have so little “juice” holding the sites to the front page just any site with simple site content could default to the front page of most search engines. While other would require a very complex and targeted link campaign. It is all in what Search Result you are looking for on which Search Engine and how many resources your SEO has at his disposal.
