What is your Unique Selling Proposition
Posted on February 20, 2008
A Different Angle
If you’ve tried every suggestion and tip there is online or offline for your brochure printing ad and postcards, but you still don’t have the results you want, why not try a different angle to your print ads? You might want to consider using USP to create a successful marketing campaign for your business.
What is a USP? USP is the abbreviated version for Unique Selling Proposition. It is what makes you different from all the rest. It’s the thing that separates your business from your competitors.
If you look at a directory, the first thing you will notice is that all the information for every service you might need describes the same things - similar designs, similar content. Not one ad will jump at you from the page you’re browsing. And why is that? It’s because each of the ads didn’t make a great job of showcasing the USP for each business.

Improve Your “Click Through Rate” by Writing Effective Google AD Copy
Comments: Article bodMaking the most of your Google Advertising opportunities requires a good look at your advertising text from an internet marketer’s point of view. By incorporating some fundamental marketing logic to your Google PPC (Pay Per Click) Ads, you can increase your CTR (Click through Rate) without having to exponentially increase your CPC (Cost per Click) campaign budget.
Having the highest CTR possible is essential in getting your Google Adwords Advertisement ahead of your competition. Why? Before your advertisement is shown on Google or any of their partner sites, a quick alculation is performed to asses the ranking or position of each advertisement.
There are many other factors that govern your PPC ad’s ranking (such as landing page quality) but this is the basic formula.
‘CTR x CPC = Rank’
Just buy looking at the formula it is easy to see that an advertisement with the higher CTR will gain a better rank than an advert with a similar CPC. This is why it is important to make users ‘want’ to click on your ad. The more clicks your advertisement has in contrast to every time it is displayed (impressions), the higher your CTR.

Theme Based Keyword Clustering
Posted on January 22, 2008
I was just listening to one of my mentors Russell Wright from ThemeZoom and he really got me to thinking. In case you have not heard of Russell you can get to know Russell’s brain here. I have been a ThemeZoom member for about 6 months now. I consider myself proficient in using the keyword clustering marketing analysis application. I will also likely be a ThemeZoom member for life. It is not because of the Multi million dollar application. It is not because of the countless videos that help you learn the tool. It is not because of the new application launch in March 2008.
It is Russell’s brain that helps me the most.
ThemeZoom just conducted a survey of about 85 users. I listened to the entire 80 minute audio and the cross tabular survey results. In his audio he gives his take on the next 24 months of stormy weather in store for the web. Russell and Art Crowley have put together one of the most impressive learning pads for present and future marketeers. What they are going to tell you is really about the same principles that have applied for decades. It is just that today there are more Multi channels to market through. Mailing lists are still used but what we do with them has changed.

Measuring SEO and SEM

The SEO Debate - Good ROI or Hard to Measure?
A recent survey by MarketingSherpa of over 2400 in-house marketers and over 700 marketing agency executives found search
engine optimization (SEO) to be the second most effective tool for generating ROI, right behind email marketing. Good news for all those start-up internet marketing agencies.
But a closer look at the numbers revealed a slightly different story. Although 36 percent of respondents rated SEO to have good ROI, another 21 percent slammed it as hard to gauge. The result was that SEO also placed third, out of seven marketing tactics, for least effective.
Why would a tactic heralded as being on the cutting edge of internet marketing, and praised for it’s ROI also be criticized for being hard to gauge? There are a few reasons, most of them related to the relatively short period of time SEO has been used as a marketing tool and the trepidations most business owners feel when paying money for a relatively new strategy with graduated pay-off.
Measure This.
There still isn’t a good, solid analytics tool that can separate SEO leads from SEM leads. Google Analytics, wildly popular because it
is effective and free, only measures return from SEM leads, and most other high-level analytics tools, like Click Tracks for example, inevitably mix up SEO and SEM. Frustrated business owners who couldn’t get solid numbers about SEO versus SEM probably contributed to those who judged SEO “hard to gauge.”
Time, time, time.
Getting on the first, or even second, page of Google for a popular key word takes serious time, effort, and patience. After all only 10
websites in the entire country are capable of getting on the first page of Google for a specific keyword or phrase. Return on investment, in the form of a higher profile or better leads, may arrive within two months, or take over a year. In fact, any good report on SEO’s ROI should evaluate expenditure and profits on an annual basis, rather than going month by month.
The Size factor.
Companies with the time and resources to wait things out see a tremendous jump in profits thanks to SEO. Smaller companies who become frustrated part-way through the process or who lose the ability to fund SEO or who choose a cheap and ineffective SEO company are less likely, or, rather, not likely at all, to see the fruit of their investment. This factor is also probably the reason that MarketingSherpa’s survey found that 43 percent of “Big Spenders” (companies who spend more than $25,000 per month on SEO) plan on increasing their SEO budgets at least 11 percent next year, but only 35 percent of all respondents surveyed were willing to do the same.
Youth.
At the end of the day, SEO just hasn’t been around that long. People like the idea of it because it is cutting edge, but the flip side of cutting edge technology is that it often hasn’t had time to really prove itself. Businesses praise SEO’s obvious advantages (zero cost
per click, long-term rankings, no constant bidding wars) but feel less sure when it comes to paying up front costs that will give birth to results at some distant point in the future. There are no standards in the industry, no rules, and most of the literature on SEO is available on the internet, in opinion articles and through blogs.
Is SEO an effective tool? YES. We can’t say it enough and the stats speak for themselves. According to Forrester Research, 93 percent of Internet users use search engines and 97 percent of those users never get beyond the first three results they find. Not only that, but thanks to an ad-averse culture, 76.7 percent of internet users use the organic, rather than paid listings. But search engine optimization is not cheap and not easy. Anyone who promises you first page status for 500 bucks a year is lying. So count the cost, research the benefits, and prepare for an exciting journey.

Internet Marketing – Intimate Marketing
In these days of vast Internet use, people generally have the intention to attach everything of their daily life to the Internet. So the concept of promotion and marketing also get co-related with each other. Lets discuss a little about website promotion.
Website promotion, some times referred to as the e-marketing or online marketing, is the online strategy for the services or the products applied through the use of Internet. Due to the low-cost and the global nature of the Internet, the website marketing concept is gaining some rapid popularity. The other cause of the popularity of this concept is the interactive nature of the Internet. Online promotion is a procedure of mounting and promoting a group using the online medium. Factually, website promotion doesn’t always mean just websites. The scope of marketing communications is beyond website building or operating through a website. web-based advertising strategies include each and every aspect of online advertising services, products, and positively the websites that include the email marketing, market research, and the direct sales strategies.
Here are several types of affordable internet advertising. Let us discuss a little about them.
• Search Engine Marketing: SEM or search engine marketing is a special type of Internet advertising, which looks to endorse the websites by mounting their appearance in the pages of Search Engine Results. This type of web-based advertising could be divided into several categories such as paid placement, search engine optimization, and paid inclusion.
• E-Mail Marketing: E-mail marketing is a special form of direct web-based advertising that uses electronic mails as the component of interacting commercial or fund-lifting messages to a target audience.
• Blog Advertising: When marketing on the web is done through the uses of the web-blogs, then that type of online website promotion is called the Blog Marketing. Don’t mix up the blogs with general corporate websites. Generally, a single marketing topic comes through the blog at once.
• Viral Marketing: This is the marketing technique, which uses the already existing social networks to create the brand awareness, through spreading the computer viruses. Now, this method is not always good, since the viruses could hamper the computer of a customer. So it could create bad reputation for the marketing product.
• Interactive Advertising: One-on-one interaction between the product manufacturer and the customer through Internet.
Advantages:
(1) The main advantage of the website promotion is the one-on-one interaction between the manufacturer and the customer. Mail or the messages are sent to the customers in bulk but when the customers are opening the mailboxes, they are getting the mail addressed directly to them.
(2) Among the other advantages of affordable internet advertising you could include the demographics targeting by the online marketers, measurability, customer response and the immediate results.
Disadvantages:
If people are not aware of the latest technologies this Internet website promotion strategies could go in vein. On other hand, customers could have the lack of experience on feeling the product.
Bottom Line:
Though these web-based advertising strategies have some drawbacks, it is expected that the Internet Marketing will be even more popular in the future.

Convert your Visitors Instead of Promotional Efforts
Posted on December 28, 2007
Improving Your Conversion Reduces the Need to Constantly Promote Your Sites
I just got off the phone with Michael Fortin, one of the top copywriters and conversion experts on the web.
We were doing a seminar for our members on conversion and testing for website owners wanting more out of the traffic they already enjoy, rather than constantly having to promote their sites to support low conversion rates. Specifically, we were talking about all the things you can do to test different “calls to action.”
A call to action is anything you are trying to get people to do on any particular site or page of a site. It could be buying a product or service, getting people on an announcement list or newsletter, or getting people to click on your advertising links.
Most web publishers are so happy when they finally have a site up that they consider their work done and get right to marketing it. Once the traffic rolls in, they enjoy whatever sales or clicks they get and try to make more money by driving MORE traffic to the site.
Then they start building another site. And another. And another.
This is a disturbing trend that is creating a massive amount of waste. Both in resources and time. Especially when it comes to niche publishers who are building massive networks of sites on different topics in order to capture emails, generate advertising revenue, sell affiliated products and services, or to build their lists to generate backend sales to their subscribers.
The waste is generated when people are in too big a hurry to build more sites, add more products, and get more traffic to sites that can convert sometimes 1000% BETTER than they do now.
They are moving at a hectic pace, in this scenario, to build, when their income goals can most often easily be met without so much waste.
One example of waste is when someone builds a content-dry site that has nothing but Adsense and some links on it. People hit that kind of site and can’t wait to find a reason to leave. The thinking is, “Great! My ‘click thru ratio’ is sky high! I am getting almost everyone to click on my ads!”
But here’s what’s happening in reality: you are working VERY hard to get traffic to such a site, only to “burn” it on a 35 cent click! No email capture, no follow-up, and most importantly no desire on the part of the visitor to EVER see your site again!
Would you rather have someone come through your site and click immediately on an advertiser’s link, never to return? Or would you rather have someone come to your site, read some great content, sign up for your list and not click on ANY links that first time?
I will take scenario #2 any day of the week. And I won’t have made a single penny off of that person with that initial action. But I will in the future!
If you have a site that you constantly test and tweak for performance (beyond its ability to repulse your visitors into clicking on an advertisement just to get to a QUALITY site) then you have a real business.
You can test and track SO MANY variables to make a site more profitable than it is now. Every site on the web can perform better than it does right now. Every single one!
The people who understand this never stop testing their calls to action to get their visitors to do more than something that results in a one-time action.
Traffic is the most expensive thing on the web both in the time it takes to get it and the resources you have to use up for each and every hit.
The traffic you have now might be all the traffic you EVER need on a daily basis to make a killing with your site. You will never know until you test and track everything about your site.
The headlines, the offers, the opt-in forms, the guarantees, testimonials, bullets, Adsense placement, follow-up… In short, every webmaster on the net has a lot of work to do on every site they own if they really want to reap the kinds of profits their sites are actually capable of pulling in.
Most people get a site up and are happy with the sales or clicks they get and move on. NO! You are leaving so much money on the table thinking you are done with a site right after you put it up.
That site is the worst it should ever be! Wasting another domain fee, hosting fee, bandwidth and the costs associated with getting traffic to a brand new site before you have optimized your current site for the very best conversion it can pull is NOT good business practice.
I know people who have literally thousands of domains. And one thing I can guarantee you is this: They are making a pittance, even if they are making $60,000 a DAY, in comparison to what they COULD be making with far fewer sites and more testing and tweaking of that smaller group!
And Fortin seems to agree. He is going to be at my seminar in New Orleans September 9th - 11th, 2005 to expose everyone who attends to just how much money they have left on the table over the years because they have never tested different aspects of their calls to action.
It is enlightening, as well as depressing to find out how much money you COULD have made all this time had you tested from the beginning!
But the point is, you cannot go back to get all those lost subscribers, sales, or clicks. You can only start testing today to capture more money from each site you own. Thereby alleviating the need to have a massive network of sites all performing at half their potential or much less!

What are the Ethics of Marketing to Children
Posted on December 15, 2007
The Ethics of Marketing to Children
Are you a spirited extrovert? Since toddlerhood I have been bursting with energy and always on the prowl for new stimuli. My parents had trouble understanding my abilities to remain awake for 18 hours every day with no signs of tiring. I never wanted to miss a beat.
Well, here we are 40 years later and I have never taken the time to mellow out. Since the internet began to take form in the late 90’s my interest has been in search engine advertising and publishing websites that kids like. Many marketers research websites for children, but few have been or are spirited extroverts themselves.
At the turn of the millennium I began to realize that search engines and website research can pave the way for pinpoint targeted search engine marketing to children. After determining the role that search engine data had to help organize the setting of websites I set up my first kids research website in 2002. Why kids research? Aren’t there threats to children from online marketing? It’s no secret our children are the future. Many marketing communications companies such as McDonald’s, Hershey’s marketing to children or Toys R Us spend millions every year directed right at kids.

“Mommy, can you buy me that for my birthday?”
“Daddy I want that for Christmas”
“Hey Mom can we go to McDonald’s for dinner?”
“I want that chocolate bar!”
Sound familiar? This is no fluke that your kids want what they see. The way many kid’s products are advertised and packaged leaves very little room for interpretation. In less than 1 second a youngster sees it, likes it and finally wants it. Now mom and dad you are the target of the “Nag Factor”.
Recent statistical surveys conducted suggest that children aged 12 to 17 years of age only need to say it 9 times (on average) before the parents cave and buy what they are asking for. When your son or daughter “says I want that”…you have actually been targeted by a marketing children pro. Promotion to children is a double edged sword. There is the ethics of marketing to children issue and threats to children from online marketing that is not as seen.
How and Why of Communications to Children
Each child in North America is exposed to roughly 100 TV commercials a day. If I set research in motion and dig what information I find about marketing to children is astonishing, but do I feel like I betray myself? The truth is research websites for children are a true blessing for parents.
Here are a few resourceful sites for children that are filtered by humans to ensure integrity of suitable information.
Ask Jeeves For Children
Kids can ask a question and get and immediate answer
Yahooligans
Started in 1999 it is designed for kids in the age bracket of 7 to 12.
KidsClick!
Over 5,000 kids related site compiled by librarians.
If I think back to my teenage days the closest information source I had to the internet was the school or public library.
Children today have a wealth of information at their fingertips with their research website for kids of choice. Listen-up mom and dad…the trade off for hours of engaged internet activities is “daddy I want that dolly” or “can you buy me an Xbox mom, all my friends have one and I really, really want one…please?”.
I am telling you first handed research websites for children are aimed at EXACTLY what I have told you above. Enticing your children to say any of the above magic phrases is why Free kid friendly sites have such a high conversion rate. On research websites for kids search engine marketing is studied carefully.
Appealing to and irregular child, intense kids, excited kids, sensitive kids, analytical kids, a persistent child, an introverted child, spirited children or an intense child has all been researched well. Behavioral studies allow website administers to hone their campaigns so that more and more children start nagging “I want that…”
Mom and dad, I am just letting you know what’s up here with marketing to children. Many of the research sites for children are well researched with sound search engine marketing strategies that are aimed at getting in your kid’s mind. Although you feel comfort in “kid’s safe” websites, he, he ,he…it could translate to persistent kids nagging you into purchase after purchase.
Finally, I’ll leave you with a few facts on marketing to children.
1) Children today are suffering form obesity. This is a result of Junk food (McDonald’s), extensive TV viewing hours each day and home video games such as Xbox.
2) when a child nags their parents for a gift they are 55% successful.
3) about 1./2 of children surveyed claimed that when they nag and the parent(s) cave in and buy the desired gift it improves their sense of well-being

The Best ways for Promoting your Website

The Right Way To Do Web Promotion
Designing a web site and staring a business is not an easy job. As for the real business one needs to register the business, find an
office and recruit the staff imperative for the smooth running of the business. Every step taken towards the effective establishment of the business concern is imperative and nothing can be left unattended. Likewise starting a web site for online business purposes is also not an easy task. It involves many stages of creative, technical and professional skill.
Right from starting the domain registration to creating the page layout with the SEO rich content and hosting the web site every step should be carefully carried out. The web master should have professional skills to not only create an interesting web site but also should possess the skill to promote the web site successfully online and make the presence felt by millions visiting the site thereby creating a success story not only for the client but also to himself.
A total makeover of the businesses financial gains and the customer base is what is generally expected while hosting web site.
So the work of the web master to promote the site should be focused towards meeting these goals. Just through an excellent design layout or quality content the web site cannot be considered good. The purpose for which it was created and the age group to which it should reach must be borne in mind. The content, design and the layout should all coincide with the above goals.
SEO SEM are two most important factors which a web promoter should actually work on more seriously while creating a web site. Any web site is promoted or made known to the general public through promotional ads, link building, directory submission etc. when the site is entered into a directory of a search engine it is saved in the data base and when someone searches for related words which relates to the web content of this site the site name and details come up in the search page.
So optimizing the web site content becomes very important and for this a web designer should use all the search engine optimizing techniques. Not only should he use these tactics but also maintain them then and there and this is called search engine optimization. Search engine marketing is a technique which involves marketing tactics which helps in the visibility of a web site in search engines. Tag building, newsletters, press releases etc are also considered marketing techniques through which the web sites popularity grows.
Another important web site promotion feature is the forum posting. Online social forums discuss about anything and everything and web promoters use these forums to increase the web site popularity. They start discussions in these forums in such a way that people become interested in the site immediately. Moreover these forums are read by many so the site gets the popularity it needs in no time. Web promoters even hire freelance forum posters to do this job. Thus web promotion is a multifaceted job and thus it is a job with great responsibilities.
