Why Employers Should Offer More

Law firms offer pro bono opportunities, financial services firms offer community service days, and those who work for construction enterprises often have the opportunity to give back through charity homebuilding projects. But the internet marketing industry - being so new - offers few opportunities along these lines. On the other hand, some internet companies provide a quasi-public service themselves. Why not enjoy doing good while you’re trying to do well in this fast-growing industry?

At first it may seem like a strange question to ask, but this very issue was addressed by Avi Dan at the end of October, “The Key to Luring Talent? Social Activism.” As veteran Dan joins many others in pointing out, advertising and marketing talent is waning. There is simply a vacuum of qualified internet marketers and advertisers at every level of professional development. But is social activism the answer to attract new hires and recent graduates?

Particularly for smaller companies, offering community service or charity opportunities just isn’t feasible. A better answer may be for large and small internet companies to reevaluate or diversify their own core service offerings. It is possible to offer employees the ability to advance their careers in internet marketing and make a difference in people’s lives. This article offers an example of achieving public service objectives while doing business.

Search Enables the Family Finding Movement

A few short years ago, social workers began to turn to the internet to find family members of children in state welfare systems. Beginning in Washington State, the “family finding movement,” was pioneered by Kevin Campbell, a former state social-work administrator. Campbell, now director of EMQ a private non-profit family services agency, discovered that using people search technologies he and his staff can locate eligible adoptive family members in more than 75% of cases.

According to a Wall Street Journal article covering the family finding movement, there are roughly 525,000 children in foster care at any given moment in the U.S., many of them moving to a new foster home every few months. Approximately 25,000 foster children each year reach adulthood without ever having found a permanent home. People search technology, such as US Search’s services, has changed these statistics drastically in states like Washington, Oregon and California where using internet
search is becoming a mandatory part of the child placement services.

US Search is a fundamental part of the family finding movement. US Search employees work with private agencies like EMQ and with over 75 state, county and private agencies to find family members for foster children. As a result of its corporate program dedicated to family finding, US Search employees go to work everyday and make a real difference in the lives of thousands of children. In one study by Mr. Campbell, U.S. Search was able to find more than 85% of parents who were listed as “whereabouts unknown” in California court records.

Due to the success of the family finding program, US Search is beginning a new internet initiative to make social networking sites safer. With the prevalence of internet dating and social networking sites comes the concomitant danger associated with communicating with strangers online. US Search’s public relations, marketing, and advertising divisions are working on safety education campaigns to inform social networking and internet dating consumers.

The answer to the question of luring talent with social activism is split. It is a great concept. But new hires also want training, benefits, and a good quality of life. Most of all new hires in the internet vertical they want their job to be fun. The new focus for attracting socially aware talent should lie in incorporating positive social initiatives into existing business objectives. Internet and interactive companies have set the bar for many new work force initiatives, maybe adding social responsibility to the business mix will be the next paradigm.

Database Marketing: The Key To Growing Your Business

Comments: I’ve been working on the same strategy for the past three years now and I believe that despite so many tactics emerging in the industry, I can still rely on it to get me the leads I need to grow my business.

So what is this marketing strategy? I’m basically using database marketing to reach out to as many target customers as I can.

Database marketing may not be considered as one of those glamorous and brilliant strategies in the marketing industry, but it sure does work steadily to help me achieve the growth I need. Whether you’re a small-time entrepreneur, a Fortune 500 company, or even a freelance professional, database marketing can work for you.

Whether it’s simple or more complex, database marketing can be developed to help you maintain a precise database of information of your current customers and prospective clients.

So how do you do that? Some business owners who have been successfully using database marketing as their strategy find it effective to send out a reminder every year to their current roster of customers. They mail out brochures and flyers to more active clients more than once, and they even place personal calls to their most loyal subjects – with the purpose of making their business recognized and retained in their clients’ minds.

Here’s how you can effectively optimize your database marketing strategy to help you grow your business:

1 – Database marketing works effectively with repeat marketing. This means that you use your funds to market your products and services to your best and loyal customers on a regular and repeat basis.

Send out brochures, catalogs, flyers, and even your postcards to your current clients just to remind them that you’re still around. You can also use database marketing to introduce new products and provide them with special discounts and freebies for repeat business.

2 – Experiment with new target customers. Even if you put most of your resources in keeping your relationship with your current customers, don’t forget to leave a little to generate new leads. You still need new customers to maintain your success even if you already have more than enough in your current database. More customers mean higher profits.

3 - Mix and match your marketing tools. You don’t need to stick with just one marketing vehicle to make your database marketing work. Direct mail may be your best bet when it comes to database marketing; but you still have many promotional tools that you can use that will surely have a positive effect on your business growth.

And don’t be afraid to mix and match your marketing vehicles. As they say, two heads are better than one, so does two marketing vehicles combined can work better in reaching out to your target audience.

Internet Marketing – Intimate Marketing

In these days of vast Internet use, people generally have the intention to attach everything of their daily life to the Internet. So the concept of promotion and marketing also get co-related with each other. Lets discuss a little about website promotion.

Website promotion, some times referred to as the e-marketing or online marketing, is the online strategy for the services or the products applied through the use of Internet. Due to the low-cost and the global nature of the Internet, the website marketing concept is gaining some rapid popularity. The other cause of the popularity of this concept is the interactive nature of the Internet. Online promotion is a procedure of mounting and promoting a group using the online medium. Factually, website promotion doesn’t always mean just websites. The scope of marketing communications is beyond website building or operating through a website. web-based advertising strategies include each and every aspect of online advertising services, products, and positively the websites that include the email marketing, market research, and the direct sales strategies.

Here are several types of affordable internet advertising. Let us discuss a little about them.

• Search Engine Marketing: SEM or search engine marketing is a special type of Internet advertising, which looks to endorse the websites by mounting their appearance in the pages of Search Engine Results. This type of web-based advertising could be divided into several categories such as paid placement, search engine optimization, and paid inclusion.

• E-Mail Marketing: E-mail marketing is a special form of direct web-based advertising that uses electronic mails as the component of interacting commercial or fund-lifting messages to a target audience.

• Blog Advertising: When marketing on the web is done through the uses of the web-blogs, then that type of online website promotion is called the Blog Marketing. Don’t mix up the blogs with general corporate websites. Generally, a single marketing topic comes through the blog at once.

• Viral Marketing: This is the marketing technique, which uses the already existing social networks to create the brand awareness, through spreading the computer viruses. Now, this method is not always good, since the viruses could hamper the computer of a customer. So it could create bad reputation for the marketing product.

• Interactive Advertising: One-on-one interaction between the product manufacturer and the customer through Internet.

Advantages:
(1) The main advantage of the website promotion is the one-on-one interaction between the manufacturer and the customer. Mail or the messages are sent to the customers in bulk but when the customers are opening the mailboxes, they are getting the mail addressed directly to them.

(2) Among the other advantages of affordable internet advertising you could include the demographics targeting by the online marketers, measurability, customer response and the immediate results.

Disadvantages:
If people are not aware of the latest technologies this Internet website promotion strategies could go in vein. On other hand, customers could have the lack of experience on feeling the product.

Bottom Line:
Though these web-based advertising strategies have some drawbacks, it is expected that the Internet Marketing will be even more popular in the future.

Using Long Tail Keywords

How to Write for Business Writing and High-Test Communication with Long Tails

Long Tail Keywords As a knowledgeable composer long tail keywords in article writing is a clever little peppering process to add to your creative article writing. Of course I am not trying to disturb your natural writer style, so please don’t get your hackles up so quickly! First ask yourself a simple question, “Why do you write?” If your answer is “for the pure passion and joy with no expectation for any ROI” Then STOP reading this article, please read another article on this site.

Assuming that you are like the majority of fine author’s online…expecting a little ROI or profit are not swear words. That’s why I want to talk about writing an article using Long Tail Keywords. Long tail marketing is used by webby’s that are in the know about a simple way to convert more sales and drastically reduce the cost per-sale. The long tail Chris Anderson book is a highly recommended read for those that are not clear on long tail keywords.

Improve your article on persuasive writing by adding long tails

The art of persuasive writing can be improved by researching the long tail theory. What you are doing by learning what long tails are related to your headwork is intensifying the qualifications of each and every visitor. Let me give you and example. Suppose you are writing an article on “red shoes”. After you have written your article and published it your content will eventually get spidered by a search bot. The search engine decides that the article is about “red shoes”. Now, if you ever managed to get ranked for this phrase what type of visitor do you think “red shoes” will bring? The fact of the matter is you are a shoe retailer in the state of New York. Let’s reconsider the article for a moment. If the article was written similarly, instead talking more about buying red shoes in New York, which visitor to your site is more likely to buy?

The long tail uses a “headword” and a “tail”

In the example above the headword is “red shoes” the tail is “in New York”.

I see, so it’s as simple as writing content that uses the long tail for long tail marketing to search engines and Bob’s my uncle, right?

My long tail theory may differ from others. I think that if we try to understand content writing in the eyes of a modern day search engine they are going to want more from your article then just “red shoes in New York”. Other important components are expert terms (verbiage), long tail keywords, synonyms, Statistically improbable phrases with an over-all tone of genuine knowledge.

If we examine our long tail keyword “red shoes in New York” we can break it down into 2 groups in this case

Synonyms relationships for “red shoes”

  • shoe
  • shoes red
  • red sneakers
  • boots
  • red shoe
  • red boots
  • boots red
  • footwear

Synonym Relationships for “in New York”

  • in new york’s
  • latest
  • new york news
  • new in new york
  • newest

Then there are ways you can organize your long tail keywords.

  • new york’s finest red shoe footwear
  • the newest trends in stylistic red sneakers
  • the latest new york news on getting the right red shoe for you

My opinion is, being able to say the same thing in different ways while still connecting powerful sentences is a deadly SEM weapon. Even the long tail, you can still easily get caught up in the keyword stuffing spam filter that is a part of Google’s way of filtering out spam from their index. You can easily expand on my small long tail theory for article writing above and don’t forget to also include your expert terms, long tail keywords (prefer less than 2.5%) and statistically improbable phrases.

Once you practice a few long tail article writing recipes and get in the groove the reality is (for me) my writing improved from both perspectives, the search engine and people.

It is incredible what is really going on here. Search engines are becoming incredibly intelligent! Long tail phrases are a part of their database. The result is people that query a search engine using long tail keywords are getting highly targeted results. Those same people learn allot about the product they are interested in, oftentimes more than the sellers of the product themselves. So by marketing long tails you better be knowledgeable on your product or service as well. The long tail search is a win, win for buyers and knowledge enriched sellers.

The Ethics of Marketing to Children

Are you a spirited extrovert? Since toddlerhood I have been bursting with energy and always on the prowl for new stimuli. My parents had trouble understanding my abilities to remain awake for 18 hours every day with no signs of tiring. I never wanted to miss a beat.

Well, here we are 40 years later and I have never taken the time to mellow out. Since the internet began to take form in the late 90’s my interest has been in search engine advertising and publishing websites that kids like. Many marketers research websites for children, but few have been or are spirited extroverts themselves.

At the turn of the millennium I began to realize that search engines and website research can pave the way for pinpoint targeted search engine marketing to children. After determining the role that search engine data had to help organize the setting of websites I set up my first kids research website in 2002. Why kids research? Aren’t there threats to children from online marketing? It’s no secret our children are the future. Many marketing communications companies such as McDonald’s, Hershey’s marketing to children or Toys R Us spend millions every year directed right at kids.

“Mommy, can you buy me that for my birthday?”
“Daddy I want that for Christmas”
“Hey Mom can we go to McDonald’s for dinner?”
“I want that chocolate bar!”

Sound familiar? This is no fluke that your kids want what they see. The way many kid’s products are advertised and packaged leaves very little room for interpretation. In less than 1 second a youngster sees it, likes it and finally wants it. Now mom and dad you are the target of the “Nag Factor”.
Recent statistical surveys conducted suggest that children aged 12 to 17 years of age only need to say it 9 times (on average) before the parents cave and buy what they are asking for. When your son or daughter “says I want that”…you have actually been targeted by a marketing children pro. Promotion to children is a double edged sword. There is the ethics of marketing to children issue and threats to children from online marketing that is not as seen.

How and Why of Communications to Children

Each child in North America is exposed to roughly 100 TV commercials a day. If I set research in motion and dig what information I find about marketing to children is astonishing, but do I feel like I betray myself? The truth is research websites for children are a true blessing for parents.

Here are a few resourceful sites for children that are filtered by humans to ensure integrity of suitable information.

Ask Jeeves For Children
Kids can ask a question and get and immediate answer

Yahooligans
Started in 1999 it is designed for kids in the age bracket of 7 to 12.

KidsClick!
Over 5,000 kids related site compiled by librarians.
If I think back to my teenage days the closest information source I had to the internet was the school or public library.

Children today have a wealth of information at their fingertips with their research website for kids of choice. Listen-up mom and dad…the trade off for hours of engaged internet activities is “daddy I want that dolly” or “can you buy me an Xbox mom, all my friends have one and I really, really want one…please?”.

I am telling you first handed research websites for children are aimed at EXACTLY what I have told you above. Enticing your children to say any of the above magic phrases is why Free kid friendly sites have such a high conversion rate. On research websites for kids search engine marketing is studied carefully.
Appealing to and irregular child, intense kids, excited kids, sensitive kids, analytical kids, a persistent child, an introverted child, spirited children or an intense child has all been researched well. Behavioral studies allow website administers to hone their campaigns so that more and more children start nagging “I want that…”

Mom and dad, I am just letting you know what’s up here with marketing to children. Many of the research sites for children are well researched with sound search engine marketing strategies that are aimed at getting in your kid’s mind. Although you feel comfort in “kid’s safe” websites, he, he ,he…it could translate to persistent kids nagging you into purchase after purchase.

Finally, I’ll leave you with a few facts on marketing to children.

1) Children today are suffering form obesity. This is a result of Junk food (McDonald’s), extensive TV viewing hours each day and home video games such as Xbox.

2) when a child nags their parents for a gift they are 55% successful.

3) about 1./2 of children surveyed claimed that when they nag and the parent(s) cave in and buy the desired gift it improves their sense of well-being

Mobile Marketing
To popularize their products the manufactures have to do publicity of their products. To do publicity, manufactures are often seemed to do marketing the products through newspaper advertisements or radio and Television advertisements as well. After the improvement of Internet they started to use the email marketing process to give their products more limelight. But from early 21st century it was seemed that the mobile phones are gaining rapid popularity and the mobile population was increasing in large number day by day. After that the Short Message Service or simply SMS was starting to gain some huge popularity. After the improvement of SMSC technology and seeing its low cost nature manufactures decided to do market their products through SMS.

If you are owner of a mobile phone then you must receive some promotional offers by your mobile service provider. These are all the parts of SMS marketing. In this concept of SMS marketing, manufacturers or SMS marketing agencies do end some text message; consist of maximum of 160 characters, to you with important information regarding their product. You must be aware of the fact that promotional SMS of some manufacturers are coming on your mobile phone, which is neither your service provider nor you subscribed for their product any day. Now a question must come to your mind! How they got their mobile number? These types of manufacturers often get your number from your service provider or from some other source like your friends or known ones. Some times the SMS marketing messages are regarded as Spam. It is really irritating for the mobile phone owner to receive same promotional for multiple times.

Now some other facts and figures of SMS marketing for you! In these days companies are even sending innovative mobile coupons. The researchers say that people do use the mobile coupons 300 times more than the normal coupons. Companies usually send SMS to the subscribers to maintain a good customer-dealer relationship status sometimes. They also send SMS frequently to gather the customers’ feedback within span of some days.

The effective SMS marketing model can be divided into two different variables. Here are some dependent and independent variables present in the SMS marketing model according to the research analysts. According to them the description of the success factors of the different components are included in the field of independent variables. Here are two types of dependent variables. First one is the Message Success Factor. The Message Success Factors of the SMS marketing are Contents, Personalization, and Consumer Control. The other success factors are the Media Success Factor and it includes Device Technology, Transmission Process, Product Fit, and Media Cost as its components. The Dependent Variable of Effective SMS Marketing model is the success measures of it. The success measures of this model are Consumer Attention, Consumer Behavior, and Cost Ratios.

Now if you exclude those drawbacks mentioned earlier the SMS Marketing process has a bright future. But the companies should remember the importance of the mentioned components before using SMS as their marketing weapon.

Why Sending The Right Promotional Tools To The Right Audience Makes A Difference

Making a hit with your promotional campaign and providing your target readers with the right promotional tools can spell a world of difference in having a successful business.

Often, your promotional tools don’t fit your target market. In fact, most of your marketing collaterals like your catalog printing piece get labeled as junk mail precisely because they don’t actually answer the concerns of the recipients.

To effectively send the right promotional tools to the right audience, you need to understand a golden rule for your direct mail project.

Hit the Right Target

Marketing campaigns are a lot like love. In order for you to attract the right guy, you need to send out the right signals. Otherwise, you’ll have a heck of a time avoiding the attention of someone who is totally not your type.

Another scenario is that you’re sending out signals to the right guy but he’s not interested at all.

Marketing is like that. Either you send out the right message to the wrong target market. Or you hand out the wrong message to the right target clients.

Let’s say you’re a meat vendor. Your 50% price cut would fall on deaf ears if the one you sent it to is actually a vegetarian. Or your catalog of swimsuits would not be very appealing if you sent it during winter season.

The difference between junk mail and direct mail is the importance – junk mail is not important, while direct mail gets to the right person and considered as wanted mail. What you have to offer is important if the client you mailed it to can benefit from your product.

The key then to a successful direct mail catalog is to get your promotional tool sent to the right people. The right people would be more appreciative of what you have inside your catalogs. They would more likely open your pages because they have the need for what you have to offer.

So the first thing you have to do to make sure that you have the right promotional tools for your target clients is to understand your target market. Learn how your products can answer a need or solve a problem. Provide your target clients with benefits in your catalog printing copy and you’ll definitely get the right clients to appreciate your catalog.

Second, write a benefit-oriented copy. List your benefits in a way that is easy to understand. Not the features; just plain benefits. Provide your target clients with the things that he/she can have with your products. Make them want to respond right away to your catalog in a positive way.

Lastly, make an impact so you’ll stand out from the rest of the competition. Your print catalog will not be the only direct mail piece that would land on your target clients’ hands. So make sure that what you give them is better than what the others are offering.
