Gear Up Towards Ecommerce Success

Posted on July 30, 2007

Online shopping is the latest trend among customers. Why would you still go to the shop personally when you can do shopping from the comforts of your own home? Because of the rising popularity of online shopping, more and more business persons are setting up their own ecommerce websites to meet the needs of customers and of course, earn big money online.

There is a very bright future for ecommerce websites. As long as there are needs that should be met, there will be customers. For ecommerce website owners, earning money online can be so easy. If people need your products and services, your website will stay alive as long as you want.

Online Competition For Ecommerce Websites

Because of the increasing numbers of online shoppers, there is a need for more ecommerce websites. The problem, however, is that there seem to be several ecommerce websites now. A lot of business persons have answered the call to sell something online. This makes online competition very tough.

Just think about this, if you sell health and beauty products online, there are hundred more several websites like yours. They also offer the same products and services. If there is one customer looking for a health product, he has a hundred choices to choose from. So how can you increase your website’s chance of getting that customer?

Plan Ahead And Market Your Ecommerce Website

This is one thing that most ecommerce website owners do not completely understand. Most of them think that once they have set up their websites, they don’t have to do anything anymore. They will just sit and wait for sales. This may be true ages ago, but with the tough competition now, if you don’t do anything, you won’t get any sales.

Ecommerce websites need two things to consider. First is planning and the second is marketing. Before setting up the website, there must be a thorough planning first. In planning, you must consider the target market, budget, design and other factors that will affect the overall performance of the website.

Second is website marketing. After you have set up your website, you need to work on a marketing campaign. Through marketing, you can make your website more popular and visible to your target market. There are several web marketing options which you can use. The choice of the web marketing option depends on the need of your website.

Remember not to stop working on your website after the set up. If you stop working on it, the sales will also stop. Continually market your website for continuous sales.

Listen to Your Customer

Posted on July 30, 2007

Listen to what your customer means more than just hearing the words they say. For example someone might say: I want to fit in these pants, but what they are really saying is, I need to lose some weight. You have to determine what action your customer is planning to take by what they tell you.

To everything people say there is a reason behind it. As a great salesperson you have to find out that reason. You have to understand why customers will ask certain questions. This way you can be more prepared for the next thing you are going to say. You will also understand your client better. Don’t you relate to somebody more when they take the time to figure out what you want? The same goes for you and your customers.

This is easier when you are selling to someone in person. You can monitor their behavior and watch their expressions. Watching your clients hand gestures is also a good way to find out what they really mean. People generally use hand gestures to pernunciate words or show emotion. Think about it, when you are trying to explain something but you beat around the bush don’t you use hand gestures?

When you are selling over the phone you have to give your customer 100% of your attention. This way you will not miss anything they say and mean. You also have to ask why. Clarify everything and repeat back what they said and make sure you have the right idea. “So you’re saying….., right?

So, next time you are talking with a client and they say “I want” or “I need”, look past the words and at the true meaning. Take the time to figure what your customer needs instead of what they say they need.

How To Detect Search Engine Spamming

Posted on July 25, 2007

Webmaster who lack sufficient knowledge about search engine optimization and search engine spamming may already be utilizing spamming techniques without even knowing it. It is important that webmasters and search engine optimizers realize what search engine spamming is to be able to avoid it. Remember that search engine spamming, intentional or not, still causes a number if penalties from the search engines.

The fact is that there are really webmasters who use search engine spamming intentionally. They utilize search engine spamming techniques to boost their website’s ranking on the search results. What they are doing is technically tricking the search engines. This action indeed deserves penalty. But how about those who use search engine spamming unintentionally? The penalty remains the same! So the best thing to do is to be familiar with the search engine spamming techniques and avoid them at all times.

Search Engine Spamming

Technically, search engine spamming is the trick other webmasters use to secure a higher site ranking position on search results. Webmasters who use the search engine spamming technique create irrelevant web content that appears on a highly visible position of the search results. However, search engine spamming does not adhere to the rules set by the search engines so it normally results to penalty and worst – site banning.

Commonly Used Search Engine Spamming Techniques

Here are the three commonly used search engine spamming techniques today. Avoid them at all times if you don’t want your website to get penalized or worst – banned!

Hidden Text

If you use texts of the same color to the background of the web page, you are spamming the search engines. In the first place, why will you use the same color on the text and the background if you don’t have any other motive than providing your site visitors with relevant information? The reason behind hidden text is keyword stuffing. Webmasters place keywords on the page through hidden text.

Doorway Pages

This search engine spamming technique works by optimizing a particular page to rank well on the search results. This page, also called the doorway page, contains loads of keywords (which is another spamming technique – keyword stuffing). And the doorway page leads to a completely different website when clicked.

Link Spamming

Avoid joining link farms for they will do more harm than good to your website. It is true that the search engines value links but they value only relevant links! Link farms offer nothing but irrelevant links.

Knowing these things about search engine spamming, let me ask you again, are you spamming the search engines or not? Beware because these search engine spamming techniques are off to pull your websites down!

Use A Duplicate Content Checker To Boost Your Traffic

Posted on July 11, 2007

The buzz on duplicate content penalties is almost deafening. Some people think it’s a myth while others strongly believe that search engines are out to hunt down these so-called posers and give them the worst punishment possible. Regardless of their accurate definition, duplicate content penalties do occur. The bottom line is that search engines aren’t big fans of duplicate content at all, so why even have it on your website?

The last thing any search engine would want is to give its users an unsatisfying search experience. They are doing everything in their power to provide optimum search results. By constantly improving their algorithms and filtering duplicate content, they are presenting their users with the most relevant and unique listings for search results. This is the main reason you use search engines in the first place. For them to work to your advantage as a website owner or blogger, you will need high-quality content that is both unique and informative. This way, search engine results related to your niche pull up your page as a primary valid listing.

How do search engines deal with duplicate content exactly, you ask? Google, for instance, uses a supplemental index found within its database that acts as a filtering mechanism. Basically, it weeds out websites and blogs that have duplicate content. They use spiders called Googlebots to collect and analyze similar content found in different web pages. They select a few of these web pages and present them in related searches. Meanwhile, those that are disregarded are placed in Google’s supplemental index. This doesn’t mean your site is thrown into the void, never to be found again; it is merely positioned at the end of search listings, which makes it almost impossible for search engine users to stumble upon your site.

Duplicate content doesn’t do you or your site any good at all. You want significant traffic to pour into your site. The best solution to boost traffic for your site with SEO is to create original content. Writing unique content to your readers is like coming up with a remedy for a particular disease. People are always looking for something that would satisfy their curiosity, but if you give them information that they’ve already been hearing a thousand times over, then you are not really offering anything new to the table. A good website or blog thrives on well-written and originative content — that is a fact. By providing original content, you are giving search engine users a pretty good reason to visit your site.

It isn’t easy to come up with purely original content all the time. You do your best to write original content, but sometimes it still isn’t enough. The good news is that there are tools available for you to maximize your original text output. The best of the lot, I would say, is a duplicate content checker. This tried-and-tested tool analyzes and checks your articles for duplicate texts. A duplicate content checker basically goes over your own material, checks it against other available web content, and hits you with a red flag if matching texts are detected.

All in all, without original content, your site could just be as good as invisible. Be seen and be a valuable source of online content. Write unique copies and use a duplicate content checker every chance you get. By doing so, you’re sure to get some Google-love and, ultimately, a decent amount of traffic into your site.

How to Become Rich with Adsense

Posted on July 11, 2007

If anyone want to monetize their websites, the great way to do it is through Adsense. There are lots of webmasters struggling hard to earn some good money a day through their sites. But then some of the “geniuses” of them are enjoying hundreds of dollars a day from Adsense ads on their websites. What makes these webmasters different from the other kind is that they are different and they think out of the box.

The ones who have been there and done it have quite some useful tips to help those who would want to venture into this field. Some of these tips have boosted quite a lot of earnings in the past and is continuously doing so.

Here are some 5 best proven ways on how best to improve your Adsense earnings.

1. Create a custom palette for your ads. Choose a color that will go well with the background of your site. If your site has a white background, try to use white as the color of your ad border and background. The idea to patterning the colors is to make the Adsense look like it is part of the web pages. Again, This will result to more clicks from people visiting your site.

2. Concentrating on one format of Adsense ad. The one format that worked well for the majority is the Large Rectangle (336X280). This same format have the tendency to result in higher CTR, or the click-through rates. Why choose this format out of the many you can use? Basically because the ads will look like normal web links, and people, being used to clicking on them, click these types of links. They may or may not know they are clicking on your Adsense but as long as there are clicks, then it will all be for your advantage.

3. Try to automate the insertion of your Adsense code into the webpages using SSI (or server side included). Ask your web administrator if your server supports SSI or not. How do you do it? Just save your Adsense code in a text file, save it as “adsense text”, and upload it to the root directory of the web server. Then using SSI, call the code on other pages. This tip is a time saver especially for those who are using automatic page generators to generate pages on their website.

4. Maintain links to relevant websites. If you think some sites are better off than the others, put your ads there and try to maintaining and managing them. If there is already lots of Adsense put into that certain site, put yours on top of all of them. That way visitor will see your ads first upon browsing into that site.

5. Remove the Adsense from the bottom pages of your site and put them at the top. Do not try to hide your Adsense. Put them in the place where people can see them quickly. You will be amazed how the difference between Adsense locations can make when you see your earnings.

These are some of the tips that have worked well for some who want to generate hundreds and even thousands on their websites. It is important to know though that ads are displayed because it fits the interest of the people viewing them. So focusing on a specific topic should be your primary purpose because the displays will be especially targeted on a topic that persons will be viewing already.

Note also that there are many other Adsense sharing the same topic as you. It is best to think of making a good ad that will be somewhat different and unique than the ones already done. Every clickthrough that visitors make is a point for you so make every click count by making your Adsense something that people will definitely click on.

Tips given by those who have boosted their earnings are just guidelines they want to share with others. If they have somehow worked wonders to some, maybe it can work wonders for you too. Try them out into your ads and see the result it will bring.

If others have done it, there is nothing wrong trying it out for yourself.

Simple Content Writing

A Beginner’s Guide to Article Writing

If you can find time to write about your business the benefits are huge. In my case I love to speak and write so it is a passion for me. Many folks are at a disadvantage when it comes to writing skills and usually end up hiring a copywriter. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I would always encourage indulging yourself as deeply as you can into your native tongue. Both writing and speaking are very important ingredients in your life. When you can write it usually means that you have a good comprehension of your language. It doesn’t matter if your writings aren’t highly accepted when you start writing. What matters is you learn as you go along. Believe in yourself and the material you write. With a web-based business it becomes more imperative to write good quality content. When you compose articles online consider each one as a stepping stone to the next one and progressively improve your composition abilities. Every one you write will be easier than the one before and your speed will increase. When you feel good about your capability to write decently start submitting your articles to different article directories. Here’s a few that I like:

e-articles.info
articlecity.com

Write Your Own Articles

When creating articles I always believe that writings from the heart are most worthy of a good read. The other day I was surfing the web looking for interesting content related business ideas. I came across an approach to writing that put me back a bit. I found it on a word list blog. Basically it is a way to generate your content from your own articles by creating synonymous spins of it. I wasn’t quite getting what the point (value) of it was, and then I watched the video. My mind began to wander but came to the conclusion that it would be easier just to write the way I enjoy, so my opinion is I wouldn’t go there. Just write about what your passion and publish those articles. Make a point to submit a couple times a week. Keep in mind that the heart of your story should focus getting to the point of the article quickly.

Take Your Article Writng Skills to a New Level

When you get good at writing articles online you are probably ready to start writing a book (e-zine). Here’s where you you can really let it all hang out. Write it, proof read it, create a PDF file and sell your advice and expertise. The Search engines always like a good writer! Keep up your great authoring and watch your search engine rankings naturally climb. The only real cost to writing is your time and it can easily generate incoming links to your site which are seen as votes by search engines. Generate new prospects, leads and open up new doors to your site. There is no doubt writing articles are a natural way to build your name online but be aware of how you distribute them. Some believe that distributing the same article creates a dampening effect through duplication.

Create Time To Make Time

People will always make time when it comes to desire. Creating your own articles that help others are a sure fire technique to stick with. Stay really light on self promotion and focus on how your expertise can help the people. Not everyone wants to write; many see priorities in other areas and are successful. On the other hand no one will ever convince me that writing skills are not beneficial.

10 Steps To Top 10 Rankings In Google

Posted on July 9, 2007

Most webmasters go totally “gaga” for top 10 rankings in Google. And for good reason, Google is the most dominant search engine on the net and will deliver the largest amount of traffic.

Even those webmasters who are fortunate enough to get No. 1 rankings for their keywords in all the three major search engines will tell you Google is the one that will deliver the majority of their traffic. Hands down.

More importantly, those same webmasters will also inform you, getting top 10 rankings in Google often means your site will prove profitable. Mainly because obtaining targeted traffic is usually your first obstacle in creating a viable online business. In other words, if you get top ten listings in Google for good searchable keywords, it is almost impossible not to earn money.

How To Proceed?

First, you must know the rudimentary basics of how keywords work. Keywords and keyword phrases are the exact words someone types into a search engine to find what they’re looking for online. If you have a site on “dog training” then your goal is to get a top 10 ranking for the keywords “dog training”.

Now if no one searches for “dog training” it would be a useless keyword, you would get no traffic no matter how perfectly your site is optimized for that keyword.

How Do You Know If A Keyword Is Good?

To find out, you have to do some keyword research on your particular keywords. Many professional online marketers use keyword research software like Brad Callen’s Keyword Elite. However, you can also use the keyword suggestion tools supplied by Google Adwords or Overture. Try here:

http://www.digitalpoint.com/tools/suggestion/

Now if you check “dog training”, you will find it receives around 4,469 searches each day. That’s a lot of traffic but you must realize that it may be too good, or rather too competitive for your purposes, especially if have a new site.

Biggest Mistake When Choosing Keywords

The most common mistake most novice webmasters make is targeting keywords which are too competitive. You simply will not be able to compete or place for extremely competitive keywords. Well established sites and businesses with very deep pockets have the resources to completely dominate those keywords.

While it is not entirely futile nor a waste of time to concentrate your efforts on highly competitive keywords, you will have better success if you target low to medium competitive keywords.

Long Tail Keyword Marketing

Besides online marketers have discovered that longer keyword phrases are usually the most lucrative. These phrases deliver traffic which is better targeted and more likely to convert into a sale. “Dog hunting training” which gets around 100 searches a day will be more targeted than the general term “dog training” and if you have a site devoted to training hunting dogs then this keyword phrase may convert better for you.

Always keep this “Long Tail” keyword strategy in the back of your mind as you implement the following steps to achieve your own Top 10 Rankings in Google.

1. Make A Master Keyword List

Your first step is to make a master list of the keywords you wish to target. Obviously these should be closely related to the theme of your site. As you can see from the example above, it is best to choose low to medium competitive keywords. Check the keyword competition by seeing how many sites are listed in Google for that keyword. Webmasters also check the Google PageRank of the sites that hold the top 10 positions. If all those sites are PR6 and above it may be hard to get ranked high for your keywords.

2. Choose Related Keywords

Once you have your master list of keywords, find long tail related keywords to target. Again, check out the competition and daily searches made for each chosen keyword.

3. Use Quality Content For Your Keywords

Creating quality content should always be your main goal. Write for actual visitors who will see and read your content. First and foremost you must have good useful content that your visitors will use themselves and recommend to their friends or colleagues. Tie this quality content in with your chosen keywords. Use one keyword phrase per page.

4. Use Keyword In Domain Name, Title And URLs

Having your keyword in your domain name will score big points from search engines. Plus, each page of content should contain your keywords in the title & meta tags for that page. Most experts also suggest you have your keyword in the URL and use hyphens to separate your keywords. Although the author has gotten good results by using an underscore and htm in URLs. Example: www.yoursite.com/your_keyword.htm

5. Do On Page Optimization

Keyword ratio is a much discussed topic by SEO experts and many suggest you should have your keyword in the H1 or headline title of your page. Sprinkle your keyword and variations of it throughout your page. Don’t over do it but make sure the robot/spiders will clearly discover what your page is about. Many webmasters make sure they include their main keyword in the first and last 25 words on their pages.

6. Use Traffic Modules

One technique that works extremely well in Google is clustering a closely related topic or subject into a distinct separate section on your site. For example, if you have a marketing site, you could create a whole section on article marketing where you would have 50 to 100 keyworded pages all relating to your subject. Writing articles, formatting articles, submitting articles, article software… place a keyword linked menu on each page to connect all your pages together.

Keep in mind, your main objective is to supply quality information to your visitors. One reason Google may favor this type of structure is because they want quality content returned in their SERPs.

7. Try Article Marketing

Article marketing is writing short informative articles on keyword topics related to your sites. You then submit these helpful keyworded articles to ezine directories on the web, when your articles are picked up by related sites you receive quality One-Way links. The higher the quality of your article, the more links you will receive.

Another ranking tactic to use, if you’re just starting out your site will probably have a low PR rank and you will find it hard to rank for even modest keywords. That’s why it’s useful to take advantage of the higher PageRank of the major ezine directories. Your keyworded articles on these high PR sites will get picked up by Google and displayed in the top 10 rankings. Now the displayed URL will be the article directory site but the links in the resource box will be pointing back to your site. Over time this article marketing technique will raise your own site’s rankings for those keywords. Simple but effective.

8. Anchor Text And One Way Links

Off page optimization is important in obtaining high rankings in Google. Getting quality One-Way links is very important. Anchor Text simply refers to “the underlined clicked on words” in your links. Most webmasters include their keywords in their anchor text as this tells the search engines exactly what the links are about.

9. Tags, Blogging And Web 2.0

Take advantage of Web 2.0 by using blogs, RSS feeds and the social bookmarking sites like Reddit and Digg. Try AddThis.com for a simple social bookmarking system. At the very least your site should have a blog and RSS feed attached to it as this is an effective way of boosting your keyword rankings.

Tags have become very important for getting higher rankings. Keep in mind, in free blogging software such as WordPress, categories will automatically be seen as tags. Blogger, which is owned by Google, now has a form where you put your keywords (tags) for each post you make.

10. PPC vs Organic Search

Of course, one of the fastest ways to get your links displayed on Google is to pay for them by using Google Adwords. Your ad and links will sit side by side with the organic link results. In Pay Per Click advertising you bid or pay so much per click for your keywords and you only pay when someone clicks your links. But smart marketers also know since you’re getting millions of impressions advertising your products, acquiring name recognition and branding through PPC advertising can be a major side-benefit.

However, most webmasters would say that organic links (SERPS) will return better traffic than paid links or advertising. In most cases, this may be true because Google’s organic rankings are becoming more respected and more trusted by users. They simply carry more weight with surfers.

This makes it even more beneficial to obtain top 10 rankings for your keywords in Google. Depending on the competitiveness of your chosen keywords reaching the first page listing or even the favored number one spot is well within any webmaster’s reach. Just go for it. The rewards are well worth your efforts.

Can you Digg it?

Posted on July 8, 2007

Over the last year or so I have heard endless webmaster stories of getting to the homepage of digg or a similar networking site (usually all at the same time), and boast about how much traffic it brought them for a few days. Then you hear the usual “but that digg traffic didn’t convert”.Now originally I thought this was just a noobie thing, that they really thought the traffic getting money from PPC for instance is your main goal. Recently, however, I have heard some bigger players complaining about this very thing and it surprised me.

The sudden increase in traffic you receive when hitting the digg homepage with a popular item, is simply a means to an end. The real key is a) capturing a repeat visitor through bookmarking or subscriptions b) Compelling the visitor to tell one or more people about your news item (especially on their websites, with a link-back).I will say this now and have found myself saying it over and over in the forums lately : Converting Digg traffic is not about sales or ppc - it’s about how viral can you go, and how many people link to your site. Conversions can mean different things and in the case of Digg.com, the more people that either become a return visitor or tells someone or many people about your site, the higher your conversion rate.

I recommend keeping the ads to a minimum when you have a hot item on the front page of Digg. Better yet take the ads off altogether and try to look like as professional as possible. First of all, this technique can get you more backlinks, as many high page ranked blogs refuse to link to banner farms - and even if you don’t think your site is a banner farm, they might. Secondly, keeping the ads to a minimum instead of cramming the page with more ads helps will help prevent your site from being slammed in the comments section as a sneaky webmaster… something I know can get you buried all to quickly.

Remember when doing your link baiting strategies and when you do get a hot item - focus on compelling these brand new visitors that your site is “digg-worthy”, and try to get on the good sides of as many diggers as possible. Just ask mashable if they like being a digg favorite.

The Real Potential of the Web Directories in Internet Marketing

Posted on July 3, 2007

Few webmasters realize the real potential of the web directories. However, the ones who do always manage to reap the rewards of a good web directory submission campaign. This is, on many occasions, what makes the difference between existing on the World Wide Web and not being visible at all.

So what exactly are web directories? Well, it is what the name states. It is a directory which contains links to other websites on the Internet. It manages and categorizes the site submissions it receives based on each site’s theme.

Many people confuse the link directory with the search engine. While the former simply manages categories and places the web sites in the category that they belong to, the latter displays the sites based on the keywords that represent them.

There are various types of web directories. Depending on the subjects they cover, they can be either general directories or specialized directories. The general directories cover any theme, and they have broad thematic coverage. In other words, any site can make a submission to these directories, as long as it doesn’t interfere with the policies (for instance, there are directories which don’t accept adult or gambling sites, but there are some which accept them).

Then, there are specialized directories, and these cover a specific niche, which can be anything from a regional approach to a specific subject like Medicine, Marketing, etc. The best thing to do if you own a site and want to promote it is to submit to the general directories and then find out if there are any niche directories that you could submit to.

Another classification is by the fees they charge. There are free directories and paid directories, and they are self-explanatory regarding what they mean. Also, another category which is between these two is reciprocal link directories, which means that you will have to link back to them from your own site. This seems like free submission but it isn’t quite like that.

The main two advantages of web directory submissions are the extra traffic you get and the backlinks to your own site (which is good for your search engine rankings and which ultimately also turns into traffic). However, if you do it strictly for the backlinks, make sure that the directories you submit to don’t associate the “nofollow” attribute with the link (which basically means that the search engine will not follow the respective link).

The most notorious web directories are the Yahoo Directory and DMOZ (the Open Directory Project). The Yahoo Directory has two options, a free one and a paid one, and DMOZ is free (however, you will probably have to wait a few months until you get included, because the links are manually reviewed and included in the directory by a group of volunteers). But in the end, it’s well worth it because if you make a consistent web directory submission campaign, you will certainly see great results.
