Internet Marketing for 2007 - Affordable Efficiency

Posted on January 23, 2007

If you pay attention to online marketing, you are constantly inundated with people who sell the so-called “secrets” to brand new marketing techniques on the Internet. Each and every day you are bombarded with new e-books, teleseminars and software alleging to hold the “secrets” of blog and ping, or the “secrets” of the death of Google Adsense or the “secrets” of content is king for Search Engines.

However, the truth of the matter in nearly all cases is that most of these products are expensive and endorsed solely by the gurus who get paid for every item they sell. Real testimonials are rare and the pressure you are under to purchase these products is enormous.

Let’s make a two-fold pact for 2007:

One - We will not be swept away by all the hype on the Internet.

Two - We will primarily use tried and tested, successful Internet marketing techniques that won’t cost us a fortune to use.

To help you off to the right start in launching your own cost-effective marketing strategy for 2007, I want to share some valuable ideas that I’ve used to grow my own business. These marketing concepts are genuinely affordable, truly simple to implement and have honestly helped me gain generous exposure, which has resulted in new clients and increased sales. My top fifteen favorite effective and inexpensive Internet marketing tactics are listed below:

1. Article submissions to online e-zines, directories and newsgroups, and off-line magazines and newspapers (don’t worry about the duplicate content issues … just get as many one-way links to your site as possible to boost your Search Engine ranking). Writing and submitting free reprint articles is a resourceful way to generate increased exposure and will drive traffic to your web site.

2. Create and market your own affiliate program using low cost tools on the Internet, which incidentally, there are numerous tools on the web that are very affordable. Offer affiliates your articles for reprint and allow them to use their affiliate link in your byline. But don’t stop there … submit your program to affiliate program directories so that prospects can find it readily.

3. Write and submit press releases to both paid and free press release sites. Let your target audience know about your company, new products and services you’re offering and also about special company events or promotions. If you’re concerned that perhaps your writing talents are a bit rough yet, hire a ghostwriter to draft your release for you. And yes, there are many talented, professional writers who work on a freelance basis and accept both one-time and ongoing projects at an affordable rate.

4. Register with and actively participate in forums that target your ideal client or customer. Check in at least once a week and offer helpful advice to other forum participants seeking assistance and information in your area of expertise. Be sure to craft and use a compelling signature that will get added to your posts. With just a small investment of your time, you can establish yourself as an expert within your industry, which can result in generous exposure.

5. Offer legitimate comments and articles to blog owners who cover your topic area and target your audience. Create solid and productive relationships, offering to make blog postings for them in return for a byline with a live link to your site. The fact that you’re willing to offer blog owners something of value upfront will make them eager to reciprocate.

6. List your teleseminars, e-zines, live events and books on Craigslist in cities and sections that have appeal for your target audience. Sign-in and repost your listings on a regular basis to keep them current.

7. Research opportunities to be a guest on teleseminars, podcasts and webinars. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the number of opportunities available if you simply take the time to look for them. Keep a list of questions and potential topics ready for your pitch. Keep track of your guest appearances and promote them on your web site.

8. Actively participate in online social networks such as MySpace, Ryze and LinkedIn. Write compelling copy for your profile and be sure to have a good picture and logo to add where permitted. Including your photo allows people to feel a connection to you, simply because they can put a face to your name.

9. Join and participate in associations and non-profits that attract your perfect client. Find relevant associations by searching for your keyword + association in search engines and visit the American Society of Association Executives. Involvement in organizations such as this, as well as local civic organizations, offers valuable networking opportunities.

10. Place paid advertisements in e-zines that target your audience. If possible, purchase the advertisement when the publisher is running one of your articles in order to gain maximum exposure with this strategy.

What Are the Most Important Things to Look For in a Network Marketing Business?

Posted on January 22, 2007

My oldest son was born in 2000, and ever since then I have been looking for a career that allowed me to be available for him. My criteria are pretty specific. My husband is in the military and does not have the option to just call in sick if the kids are home from school and I have a business meeting to attend. And these days there is the distinct possibility of him being deployed for any length of time. So, I’m the parent who has to be available at the drop of hat (or the beep of a ear thermometer). Flexibility is a key ingredient to my ideal career. I do not want to have to rely on daycare providers being available for me to go to work. Secondly, because of my husband’s career, mine has to be portable. We pick up and move every three years, so I don’t want to worry about having to find something new at our next location. Lastly, I wanted an actual career, not a job. For me, this means money and recognition. I was looking for something that provided unlimited income potential (after all, if you’re talking about an ideal career you might as well shoot for the moon). I also wanted recognition for a job well done from the company. This could be in the form of promotions, bonuses, awards. (I’m not that picky)

It’s a tall order, but I’m nothing if not optimistic. My searching led me to the network marketing/direct sales industry. Direct Sales is a huge business, and there is always room for one more. After working with a couple different companies, reading a few books, talking to some experts in the field, earning a few awards, and making some money, I have learned there are some key things a direct sales business needs to offer to help you be successful in your business.

1. A Strong Product Line - And this needs to something you can be passionate about. The more passionate you are, the less you have to “sell” it. It is also important that there is a line of products. Once you have a customer, you want to be able to sell other products to them. And lastly, it is ideal that the products be consumable. Repeat customers are a wonderful thing.

2. A Lead Generation System - Many, many, many companies out there give you the same advice when you get started. Talk to your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers to get started. Unfortunately, if you’re comfortable talking about your business with them in the first place, you will still eventually run out of these people. Where do you go from there? Does the company have a lead system in place, or are you on your own for marketing?

3. Training - This one can actually piggyback off number 2. Does the company provide ongoing training? It is important to become a product knowledge expert when you are in sales. It is also necessary to learn how to build your business, so you don’t end up hitting that proverbial wall. But even more important is management training. One of the best ways to build your business is through bringing other people into the business. And once they are there, you want to have a strong team. If this doesn’t come naturally for you, does the company offering management or team training?

4. Multiple lines of Income - This is especially important to keep from burning out. It is also helpful if you find that you excel in one area over another. For instance, you are really good at selling the product but not at recruiting. Or you just gather people to you by breathing, and you’d rather concentrate on that than on selling the product. Can you still make a good income if you specialize?

In all my searching, I have found that these are key ingredients to help ensure my success. I have found that I am far more successful in my business when I have all the tools available to me in just one place, rather than having to go find them on my own. It has taken me some time to find exactly what I needed in a company, but persistence and planning definitely pay off.

Landing Pages

Posted on January 12, 2007

After spending almost 21 years in the computer industry, and the past 12 focusing on the Internet, I still get asked by clients why isn’t my site giving me what I need? When I ask what they are looking for, they say: leads, sales, and traffic. Well do you have a landing page, sales page, and autoresponder system. This is about the point that they either get quiet on the phone, or their eyes glaze over. They tell me they have a website, with all of their products. I tell them that is a great site, but it is just one in the puzzle, and it needs a whole different approach if they expect sales, and leads.

So I thought this would be a good time to talk about the different types of sites, and how you can take your website strategy
from brochure bland to blast furnace flare.

Traditionally, the focus for most companies have been two-fold as far as the Internet is concerned. They are a brochure type site, that provides the who, what,
where, when, why and anything in between. Often referred to as a branding site. Some sites are even bold enough to ask for the visitors email address.
Or others have a site similar to the above, only it’s really fancy, and bold, and colorful, and flashy, and… not working. The traffic hits are still abysmal and the opt-ins
are non-existent.

If your site isn’t selling for you - then why spend the money on fancy?

There are 4 main types of websites:
1. Branding - this is a site often for yourself and/or your company. This is where most companies spend thousands of dollars, and continue to pour money into it, or haven’t updated it in years. This is where you send general contacts you meet.

2. Sales Letter - this is a one page, often long form site, that highlights the benefits of one product or service. Not many companies have this type of site, but it can be effective
when used in conjunction with an email based marketing campaign, a visitor already knows you, and/or it is the go to page after a Power Page. It is focused and it’s purpose is to get the sale. Throughout this page you should ask for the ‘buy’ about 12-15 times.

3. Blog - This is a diary/journal like site that keeps everyone up-to-date with what you are doing, and/or developments with your products or services. You can post articles here, and keep in touch with your prospects and customers. This site allows for great rankings, fast, and is a nice place to make frequent announcements, and give some background about what you or the company is doing. You can get a free one of these by going to blogger.com

4. Landing Page - This is the most important page your company could have, and only 1% of the Internet population has it. And those are the companies that are making millions, and doing very little work for it.

Do you have a Power Page?? This is also called “Squeeze Page” or “Landing Page”, … but it doesn’t matter what you call it, as long as you have one.

Start to think about what difference a page like this could mean to your company, and most importantly, start your campaign and marketing efforts to getting one.

This type of page combines internet marketing tools such as autoresponders and allow you to turn your computer from a quiet site on the world wide web, to a mass marketing machine where you can build relationships, generate leads, and create a profitable blueprint for the next stage of your business.

If someone doesn’t think you need a Landing Page, then they’re either the competition or don’t want you to grow. So watch what is happening in the industry, and follow the Internet Marketers who have turned this into an art form.

Branding in 2007

Posted on January 11, 2007

Marketing for Tomorrow

Do you want your campaign to be the same as the next one? If so why waist your money? Your marketing plan should be unique and unlike any other if you want it to be remembered, after all that’s the name of the game isn’t it?
You want to remind your customers of your business long after your initial contact is made. Having consistency in your marketing messages is a known secret amongst the pros. It should be evident to you in your branding efforts focused on a global market place as well. Today, remember your website and online marketing are also a critical part of your business marketing. For smaller business, internet marketing is the simplest way to generate new business leads that actually pan out at little to no expense.

Company Branding can be your Secret Weapon

You can consider branding as a warm up to what a business is about in the eyes of its clients and prospects. When you think about branding your company, it should be one of the first marketing techniques implemented in the eye to the viewing public. The reason I say branding should be in the forefront is because it permits the general public to identify your company by a visual reference, making it a simple task to remember.

The next step is creating your logo. I recommend using a professional for your company logo. Your logo is the intellectual impression viewers have when they think of you and what you stand for.

The Customer Knows best, but you Know Better

In today’s business climate would you rather be the number one choice of your client or the only choice? The answer is simple. We’ll proceed based on the obvious. In marketing yourself to your customers and prospects it is a clever strategy to leave an after taste that remains. “Why should I award this company the contract?” your customer murmurs as they walk out of the board room. The thing is, your marketing people have done such a clever job that your contact returns 2 minutes later with a certain look on their face. The look of “no choice”. Your customer is sharp enough to realize that you bring more to the table that anyone else and you haven’t even put ANYTHING on the table yet. In real estate, professionals realize that brand is to be taken seriously, but it must bring some message with a return on investment. If you research your market properly you’ll understand what the customer wants and are one of the few that can tailor make your proposal to their individual needs.

With a Clear Mind, Create Your Logo

Clear your mind and think about the atmosphere you’ll need to create your logo and its message. Logos can take on all shapes and sizes. For example you can use the first letter of the company name as a logo to identify the company. Many businesses follow this and succeed very well with simplicity. Not to confuse your brand with your logo, a brand should include the company name, logo and an iconic representation of the promotion.

Close more Sales by Knowing Prospect

So, I go to close the sale and it seems my prospect wants to spend time and think about it? Tell me, how is it that I don’t have time to do the things I want, yet my prospect wants to think about it? Sometimes the prospect just is not confident enough yet and the salesperson has yet to pick-up on that. Let’s examine the sales and conversion process for a sec. When we present ourselves to prospects it will ultimately lead to “the close”. When is it time to close? The answer is directly connected to the selling process. The basic fundamentals of selling are Approach, Interest, Desire and action. The time to close your prospect can be before, during or after any of these fundamentals. If you want to become an expert closer you need to learn as much about your prospect as you can. This will lead to more sales and speed up the conversion process.

Search Engine Optimization Simplicity

Posted on January 4, 2007

People Are the Force Behind Traffic to your Site

All over the Internet people are looking for products, tips and to make purchases. Your online business depends on attracting those people to your e-website. How will you drive people to your site? It is the only way your web-based business will succeed. So where do you start? Many people take the wrong turn when deciding how to promote your website. If you want people take advantage of your goods and services before the competition. People need to find you. Other than online promotion you can try local radio and television spots but that can quickly drain financial resources from small business. You want to get your site get to the top of SE result pages. How do people do that? What’s the trick? There is no one simple answer other than a lot of reading and studying the behaviors of search engines regularly. High ranking keywords are your best target. One of the first things you want to do is get a list of keywords in you arena. To research this you can visit any of these free sites:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordSandbox
http://webtools.live2support.com/se_kwd.php

This way you can learn what people are searching. Take your time with research when choosing your target keyword list; it’s arguably one of the most important starting points in every search engine marketing strategy.

Design, Marketing and Building your Site are Related

Making a well-designed website is one of the first steps in your internet marketing campaign. You must also factor into the build of your site many of the marketing techniques that you have learned. An example of this is Meta tag keyword positioning and frequency of usage. Learning the right recipe will reward you with traffic to your website and long-lasting results. A well thought out website can be your partner while your company image provides a great compliment and further extends your market reach. Marketing on your site is a little different that traditional market because you always want to create a call-to-action to increase your odds of action. Attracting a targeted audience for company will grow a steady list of loyal and educated clientele.

Make Unique Content

When you write content for your site make every attempt to appeal to a wide audience. Writing content for just one group is a narrowly focussed form of writing. In the long run your content writing efforts will be more lucrative. When you are preparing articles don’t write like it’s an advert, try to supply helpful articles that readers will appreciate and read. There is no better way to bring content to the web that from the hip…unique, fresh and educated. The creation of unique and original content is your safety zone to not get hit with duplicate content penalties on your website.

98 percent of journalist query search engines every day, they are article researching, looking for news leads and blogging. Blogging is one of the best ways to get your content out there for hungry eyes. Once you have written articles you can submit the article to article submission services. They will publish it for you to the masses.
Here are a few of the better submission services.

http://www.wesubmitarticles.com/ They will submit several articles for you
http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=53226 good threads that will help you submit articles to the masses.

These are just a few important things to try and learn about and execute in your online quest to rule the mountain. My personal opinion is that a slow, determined strategy, not employing any underhanded techniques is best for longevity.

Some Seriously Good Logo Designing Tips

Posted on January 1, 2007

Reproduce your Business’s Image Logo Immediately

Create company cards and support material right away. A complicated logo will make your design logo difficult to reproduce and maintain, keep it simple.Traditionally most memorable designed company logos and are the most simple. It’s a good idea to have your graphic designer and printer of choice work together.

Graphic Design with your Logo

Logo design help provides detailed information on your identity and more. You might save a few dollars doing your own logo but experience tells me it will cost you in the long run. I played with Illustrator until I had created an original business logo that felt right for mt first logo. Then I turn all my research over to a pro. A logo type that usually speaks for a business is thought of as an identity symbolizing a company or its products.

Your Company’s Logo is Certainly not Something to Skimp on

This should not forecasted to be frugal it is the ideal way to approach company logo graphic and printing. Watch out for the phrase“Cheapest company logo’s Online! 100% Guaranteed” You pay for what you get. If you need to get embroidery reproduction for garments costs are based on more detail the logo creation design the more it will cost you in set-up fees. There is a difference between cheaply created logos and what you can afford. Inexpensive creative logo thinking can be the most expensive in the long run. Good corporate and company logos as a general rule don’t come cheap

Who Does Your Color Appeal to?

My business logo and colors were decided on a wintery day in my office. It is kind of funny how the best ideas that appeal to people are thought of when your not actually thinking about it! At one point you will need to decide on the best color scheme for your corporate logo. For this process I recommend using a pantone chart. The color of ink needed to reproduce the same colour every time is different that the RGB colors seen on the web. To reproduce your exact image logo colors every time you want to have Pantone numbers and RGB values. When getting ready to reproduce you’ll need to have digital files created in the proper format.

Your Image is Everything

The task of the graphic artist is to deepen the mystery that way you get an original logo graphic design for you and your business. Your business image can get trade or service points through the consistent use of a brand mark. A logo type that usually speaks for a business is thought of as an identity symbolizing a company or its products. The way you’ll get to the botttom of your masterpiece will be a key in establishing your company brand and will help make a ever lasting memory among its viewers.

Logos According to the Specialists

New products for professional designers are always being used; I like to employ graphic designers that are using these tools. Tools like Adobe Illustrator in particular, because I use the same software. Pre-made manufacturer logos are one of the best cheap company emblem design options for businesses. Identity with the most value is the result of using a pro, though. So, utilize educated experts. Corporate graphic design with your logo should be done by professional corporate graphic designers. Your logo may not be something you want to spend good money on but you should spend wisely on a qualified individual. If you are looking for the best logo and don’t know where to start try to Google your keyword first and see what others do. We you decide it’s time to get the a professional, experienced brand logo designer you are paying the premium to make sure your logo is developed and completed properly to your satisfaction. So work close with your designer and communicate clearly, in the long run it will save you time and money.
