There doesn't seem to be anyone that really agrees on the specifics of LSI and the co occurrence matrix . What we can be certain of is Google is not regressing with it's technology. Simple tests can be performed to see how human-like this engine has become. You have heard the phrase "There is no free lunch" ?! For those that are familiar with this phrase it's meaning symbolizes to look for the hidden negatives in sweet deals. To me, that phrase represents a concept. What I mean is Google knows there are words within the phrase that all stand alone with their own meanings and purposes within the English language...

  1. There- in or at that place (opposed to here): She is there now.
  2. is- to exist or live: Shakespeare's "To be or not to be" is the ultimate question.
  3. no-(a negative used to express dissent, denial, or refusal, as in response to a question or request)
  4. free- enjoying personal rights or liberty, as a person who is not in slavery: a land of free people.
  5. lunch-a light midday meal between breakfast and dinner; luncheon.

Yet when we look at the result pages that Google delivers we see webpages about...

  • No free lunch in search and optimization
  • Changing Behavior
  • No Free Lunch Theorems

Nicely done and evidence we are moving towards artificial intelligence that truly is awesome.
